Rustum Roy is Professor of the Solid State and Professor of Geochemistry at The Pennsylvania State University, Director of the University's Materials Research Laboratory and Chairman of its Science, Technology and Society program. He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.
He was born in India, simultaneously a 33rd generation genetic Brahmin and third generation Christian. His education and career in the United States have encompassed a life-long synthesis of disciplines and of science and religion. He has served as chairman of the U.S. National Council of Churches Committee on Science, Technology and Church. He has also been involved for 30 years in the activist avant-garde Christian community. He speaks and writes widely on contemporary religious issues, from science to sexuality.
